A single page typed letter, written by Roald Dahl on Gipsy House, Great Missenden letterhead, to the head of George Allen and Unwin publishers Rayner Unwin. Dahl writes in thanks for sending a copy of "Secret Gardens" which he has passed on to his editor at Farrar, Straus. "I read the book myself before I gave it to him and what really struck me most forcibly was that just about all the writers in it who have written a classic children's book have not come up with much else in that field. The[y] all seem to have been 'one off' merchants". Signed "Roald" in black ink. The letter is in very good condition, with two horizontal folds.
Provenance: Rayner Unwin; thence by descent to Merlin Unwin.
