First edition, first printing. Original burgundy cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Bob Haberfield illustrated dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, a little toned and with some light spotting to the endpapers and closed text-block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased, price-clipped dustwrapper that has short closed tears at the head of the spine and the top edge of the front flap fold, and a longer, 3.5 cm closed tear to the bottom edge of the front flap fold, without loss. Scarce.
The third collection of this highly regarded acclaimed series, comprising 21 Victorian ghost stories, compiled and with a foreword by Hugh Lamb, an influential editor and anthologist of forgotten horror fiction.
