Among the earliest North American trees sent back to Britain, the acacia, or locust tree, was largely used for ornamental purposes. In this work, Withers provides an overview of previous writings on the tree, extracting from Evelyn, Michaux and others, and gives instructions on its cultivation, management, and use, arguing that the quality of its wood coupled with its rapid growth would make it the ideal tree for a profitable timber market.
