First edition, first printing. Publisher's original yellow cloth boards and gilt titles on green to the spine, with dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with 52 maps and diagrams in black and white. A near fine copy, the binding tight and square, with bumping to the spine ends and corners. The contents, with light spotting to the endpapers, a small booksellers stamp on the front pastedown and name to the front endpaper, are otherwise clean. The closed textblock is spotted to the top edge and fore-edge, which has bled a little onto a few pages. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, that is toned to the spine, but otherwise free from loss or tears. Not price clipped (45s. net to the front flap).
A 'compendium of references' on the areas historical geography, which is little known because of the effect of climate on physical archaeology and lack of indigeneous writings before the 16th century.
