A HISTORY OF THE ANGLO-SAXONS

Two volumes. First edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with titles in gilt to the spine, in dustwrappers. Illustrated with 4 colour plates, 81 black and white plates, 74 in-text figures, and numerous maps (several folding). A near fine set, the bindings square and firm with a hint of fading to the top edge of the spine and boards. The contents with a contemporary ownership inscription to the front endpapers ("David N. R. Ogram / Coll. Oriel Oxon. / xi 1935"), scattered academic pencil annotations to volume one, and some minor foxing to the endpapers and textblock edge are otherwise in very good order. Complete with the very good or better dustwrappers which have the same ownership inscription in ink to the head of the front panel of each volume, a little minor chipping to the spine ends, toning to the spines, a nick to the head of the front panel of volume one, and a small closed tear to the spine of volume two. Not price-clipped (Two Volumes 30s. net to the front flaps).

The historian's seminal work, tracing the Anglo-Saxons from their first mentions to the death of Alfred the Great in 899.
