The Commentary volume bound in black cloth with titles letterpress printed in black on a white paper label to the upper board, and stamped in gilt to the spine. Printed on Veltique paper. With 23 illustrations in colour. Housed in the publisher's solander case. The books are in fine condition, bright and fresh to the binding and contents. The solander case is structurally sound with a few marks to the edge of the upper lid.
Issued in a limited edition of 980 copies of which this example is numbered 26. This edition of Francisco de Goya's 'Disasters of War' has been reproduced from the album of proof impressions assembled by the artist for Juan Agustín Ceán Bermúdez, now held in the British Museum. The Commentary volume is by Mark McDonald, former Curator in Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum and now with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. A handsome production.
