First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original quarter blue cloth and grey boards with silver titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with photographs in black and white. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a small bump to the bottom edge of the lower board. The contents are clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper that remains without fading, loss or tears.

Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the front endpaper "To Derrick Wright: / May every word you / write bewitch editors / with bottomless / bank accounts. / Tedd Thomey / 8-98 / (looking forward to / reading "A Hell of a Way to Die" and your Iwo Jima book)". The author served with the 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division in the Pacific throughout World War II and went on to become an award winning journalist, playwright, and author. The recipient is the British historian and author of several books about the United States Marine Corps (including The Battle for Iwo Jima; Tarawa 1943; To The Far Side of Hell).
