Second edition. Publisher's original green cloth with titles in gilt to the upper board. Black and white photographic portrait of the author and illustrated advertisements at the rear. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little marking to the lower board, a minor splash mark to the bottom left corner of the upper board and a small indentation to the right-hand edge of the upper board (the size of a pencil tip), following through to the first few pages. The contents with a contemporary owner's inscription ("Sydney S. Fl[***?], / Dallas, / Texas. 1913.") to the front free endpaper, an additional recipe for a 'fog cocktail' tipped-in to the head of one page, and some faint scattered foxing to the preliminary pages are otherwise clean throughout.

A classic pre-Prohibition American cocktail book by Jacob 'Jack' Grohusko, head bartender at Baracca's restaurant in New York. Providing detailed commentary on the different types of wine and liquor as well as over 300 recipes for cocktails, the work formed a significant early compendium, with many of the drinks described subsequently immortalised in the famous (and much later) Savoy Cocktail Book of 1930. This 1910 edition was preceded by a very rare 1908 first edition (NLM and LC only in Worldcat).
