SCOTTISH GYPSIES UNDER THE STEWARTS

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original burgundy cloth with gilt titles to the spine and gilt thistle illustration to the front board. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, with mild bumping and rubbing to the extremities and a few light marks to the cloth. The contents, with a previous owner's name to the half title, are lightly spotted to the first and last few pages and toned to all edges of the closed text block. The top of page 47 has a small area of loss, not affecting the text and page 71 has a closed tear to the fore-edge margin, with some cracking to the rear inner hinge and gutters.

An overview of Gypsy history during the Stewart rule from Robert II in 1371 to Queen Annes death in 1714.
