A striking monograph on Picasso's sculptural work between 1899 and 1943, beautifully photographed in black and white by the renowned Hungarian-French photographer Brassai. In 1932 Brassai photographed Picasso's studio for Surrealist publication 'Minotaure', the two formed a lasting friendship and respect for each other's work. At Picasso's request Brassai would go on to photograph all of the artists sculptural works between 1932 and 1946 to be published in 'Les Sculptures de Picasso' by Éditions du Chêne in 1948. Brassai's photographs are accompanied with an essay by the art dealer Daniel Henry Kahnweiler, who exhibited many of Picasso's early works. A key early publication on Picasso's sculptural practice, wonderfully captured by Brassai.
