A consideration of the work of American pop artist Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004). This self-portrait (Slim Stealingworth is a pseudonym) traces the artist's origins and development from fledgling cartoonist to Abstract Expressionist to creator of the Great American Nudes and other paintings celebrated for their highly charged colors and deadpan eroticism. This Taschen issue, comprising the sheets of the US issue bound in plain boards but with a thick gloss pictorial dustwrapper was presumably for European distribution.
