PROSPERO'S CELL: A guide to the landscape and manners of the island of Corcyra.

First edition, first printing. Signed, inscribed and with a large ink drawing of a Corfu scene by the author to the front free endpaper. Publisher's original yellow cloth with titles in gilt to the spine. Illustrated with 7 black and white full-page plates. A very good copy, the binding firm with bumping to the head and tail of the spine and toning and spotting to the boards. The contents with occasional foxing are otherwise in good order throughout.

"Inscribed for Venetia Francesca Featherstone Witty on her eighteenth birthday at Paleocastrissa, Lawrence Durrell" in blue ink to the front free endpaper. A charming and uncommon example of a book by Durrell incorporating an original drawing. Provenance: From the library of Martin Stone.
