ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG. A Signed Exhibition Catalogue for the Artist's first Major Museum Retrospective.

First edition. Signed by Robert Rauschenberg. Original pictorial card covers. Artist monograph. Illustrated with 30 full page plates in black and white, one folding. With a chronology, exhibition checklist and bibliography. A very near fine copy, the binding square and tight, just a hint of rubbing at the folds. The contents with the bookplate of the artist's friend, art collector, consultant and gallery owner Connie Lembark to the inside front cover remain clean and bright throughout. An excellent example of this important early catalogue, scarce in signed state.

Boldly signed by the artist "Bob Rauschenberg" in black ink to the inside rear endpaper. A beautifully designed catalogue, produced by Elaine Lustig and published in conjunction with Rauschenberg's first major Museum retrospective organised in 1963 by The Jewish Museum, New York. Only the third monograph publication on the artist, it features an insightful ten page essay by curator Alan D. Solomon and reproductions of several important early works. Provenance: Collection of Connie Lembark (1934 - 1911); acquired by Arcana, Culver City; private UK collection.
