First edition. Inscribed by the illustrator. Publisher's original illustrated paper covered boards with a burgundy cloth spine. Illustrated throughout by Bessie Alexander Ficklen with black line drawings. A very good copy, board edges a little worn, and the preliminary pages cracking slightly near the gutter. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Very Scarce, especially so in presentation state.

Inscribed by Bessie Alexander Ficklen in black ink on the front pastedown "To my dear Mrs Capp [?] with love, / Bessie Alexander Ficklen". A humorous poem about an educated rat written by the Confederate Army Brigadier General Edward Porter Alexander and illustrated by his daughter.
