PIETÀ

First edition. Original lilac, black and white paper-covered boards, in the dustwrapper which reproduces the board design. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean and bright throughout. Bumped and a little creased to spine tips. In the dustwrapper, rubbed and nicked to upper spine tip and corners, lightly faded to the spine. Not price-clipped (16s net to the front flap). A nice copy.

Thomas' ninth collection. In his Tribune review (August 12, 1966), Jeremy Robson notes that with 'Pietà', Thomas "seems to have broadened out from earlier themes [...] to touch on areas he has not approached before. His character studies and landscapes are as sure as ever, but he appears to have entered them more fully and turned the focus in, questioningly, onto himself. Urban life, too, seeps into the poems more readily so that they take on a new contemporary direction."
