THE POEMS OF MARIANNE MOORE

First UK edition, first printing. Original black paper-covered boards lettered in white to the spine, in the dustwrapper showing George Platt Lynes' photographic portrait of Moore. A fine copy, presenting as unread, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. In the fine, unclipped dustwrapper (£30.00 to the front flap). A lovely copy.

Grace Schulman's meticulously prepared edition of Moore's poems is one of two substantial (and long-awaited) editions to have emerged this century. Moore's own selections and collections of her work are invaluable but famously confusing in their arrangement and in regard to which of the many revisions of particular poems she chose. Both Schulman in 2003 and Heather Cass White in 2017 present all the work along with generous bibliographical and biographical introductions, notes and appendices. Shulman opts for a strictly chronological presentation of the poems, while White arranges the work in the context of Moore's original slim volumes. Both approaches are useful and illuminating.
