ENGLISH LOCAL GOVERNMENT: Complete in Eleven Volumes.

Reprints. Eleven volumes. Original green cloth with gilt lettering to spines, in dustwrappers. A very fine set, presenting as unread, the bindings tight and square, the contents clean and without inscriptions or stamps. The dustwrappers are fine, with minimal wear to lower spine tips and one or two minor marks. An unusually bright set.

Originally published between 1906 and 1929, each volume of this 1963 reissue is introduced by a contemporary historian (B. Keith Lucas, G. J. Ponsonby, Leon Radzinowicz, W. A. Robson). The Webbs were early members of the Fabian Society and among the founders of the London School of Economics. Both were prolific authors in their own right. This huge work, a forensic history of English local government between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries, was their most substantial collaboration.
