Signed without dedication in black ink to the head of the title page. Gray and Adam Tomkins' republican broadside is written "for anyone alarmed by the present British Government". Tomkins was, and still is, Professor of Public Law at the University of Glasgow. The cover, illustrated by Gray, shows the national symbols of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland (rose, thistle, leek, harp respectively).
