First edition thus. Signed by Lord Mountbatten and inscribed by Alan Campbell-Johnson. Publisher's original burgundy cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Top edge red. Illustrated in black and white. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Complete with fine original dustwrapper that remains without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£3.50 net to the front flap). A new edition of the original 1951 publication with a foreword by Admiral of the Fleet, the Earl Mountbatten of Burma written in June 1972 and published here for the first time.

Signed in black ink on the half title by Mountbatten of Burma. Inscribed by Alan Campbell-Johnson in blue ink on the front endpaper "To Ian / with warmest wishes / from / Alan / January 1973". The author was a British Liberal Party politician and journalist who served on the staff of Lord Mountbatten during World War II, and as Press Attaché when he became Viceroy and Governor-General of India 1947-1948. Included with this volume is a metal death token from the January 1998 funeral of Alan Johnson-Campbell.
