[SHANGHAI PICTORIAL MAGAZINE] Vol. 9, No. 3. 16.5.1937.

Original colour pictorial wrappers. Profusely illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. A good copy, the binding secure and the cover bright with new staples and tape reinforcement to the spine, a few small tape repairs to the edges and minor nicks and creases to the extremities. The contents with expected toning and several small tape repairs to the page edges are otherwise in good order.

A rare issue of this popular Chinese pictorial magazine with the front cover depicting Jiang Quing (1914-1991), later Madame Mao, the fourth wife of Mao Zedong, during her former career as a movie actress in Shanghai in the 1930s. An important early image of one of the leading figures of the Cultural Revolution.
