A widely respected and highly readable account of the life of the sixteenth century self-made Emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, better known as Shivaji. The author Dennis Kincaid was a civil servant in British India and the elder son of Charles Augustus Kincaid, a distinguished civil servant, and well-known novelist and historical writer. The book was published posthumously, the author died (aged 31) in a drowning accident whilst swimming in rough seas, shortly after completing the proof corrections.
