First English edition, first printing. Original red cloth with silver titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with a previous owner's name on the half title and foxing to the closed text block edge and faintly to the prelims, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which is toned to the oanel edges and spine. Not price-clipped (15s on the front flap).
A play based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel of the same name (later titled 'Demons'). Camus directed a production of the play himself at the Théâtre Antoine in Paris in 1959.
