THE TWELFTH-DAY-GIFT: OR, THE GRAND EXHIBITION; Containing a curious Collection of Pieces in Prose and Verse (many of them Originals) which were delivered to a numerous and polite audience, on the important subjects of religion, morality, history, philosophy, polity, prudence, and oeconomy, at the most noble the Marquis of Setstar's, by a society of young gentlemen and ladies, and registered at their request, by their old friend Mr. Newbery. With which are intermixed some occasional reflections, and a narrative, containing the characters and behaviour of the several persons concerned.

The third edition. Nineteenth century mottled calf, five double ruled bands and titles in gilt on a black morocco label to the spine. 12mo. [vi] 209pp. Bound with two red silk page markers, frayed at the ends. Illustrated with nine full page engravings. A very good copy, the binding rubbed to the extremities with short splits at the ends of the upper joint but holding firm. The contents, with only minor spotting to a couple of pages are otherwise clean throughout.

The first edition was published in 1767, a second in 1770 with further printings throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries. All are seemingly scarce in commerce (rarebookhub recording just five copies at auction since 1919, only one of which is the 1774 third edition).
