First edition, first printing. Inscribed presentation copy. Five fold-out colour catalogues, one for each of the featured artists, with an eight page introductory pamphlet (featuring a photograph of the five artists and an introduction by Alasdair Gray). All housed in the original transparent plastic wallet (there's small, faded price-sticker affixed to the top right). The introductory leaflet shows some age-toning; the five fold-outs, printed on higher quality thick paper/card, are fine with no toning, marks or creases. Slipped in is a photocopied interview with Gray. An attractive example of a scarce item.
Published to accompany the exhibition at the MacLellan Gallery in Glasgow in December 1986, travelling to Edinburgh and Aberdeen in 1987. The five featured artists are Carole Gibbons, John Connolly, Alan Fletcher, Alasdair Taylor, and Alasdair Gray. The front of the introductory pamphlet is enigmatically inscribed at the top "To Dave 1 from Simon * with thanks" and, at the bottom, footnotes to the symbols: "* [=] otherwise known as Alasdair / 1 [=] otherwise known as Ian (IAN)", all in Gray's unmistakable handwriting. Each of the fold-outs contains a short biography, a list of the works being shown, and some reproductions. (Moores J1a)
