First edition with these illustrations, first printing. Quarter vellum binding and decorative brown paper covered boards with vellum tips. The titles to the spine stamped in 24-carat gold, illustration on the upper board blocked in brown, red, white and gilt. Top edge gilt. Gilt patterned endpapers. With an original etching (hand printed under the artist's supervision by the Pauper's Press, Hoxton), 17 fine mounted colour plates, and tailpieces by Peter Suart. A very near fine copy, the binding square and tight, bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Just a few very light foxing spots to the closed fore-edge of the text block. Retaining the original plain glassine wrapper. Housed in the original solander case, red calf label with gilt titles a little scuffed in places.
Issued in a limited edition of 1000 copies of which this example is numbered 266 and signed by Peter Suart in pencil to the lower margin of the etching. A beautifully illustrated and produced edition of Gulliver's Travels.
