First edition with these illustrations, first printing. Publisher's blue cloth with illustration in black to the upper board and titles in red and white to the spine. With a colour frontispiece and nine further full page colour illustrations by Jonathan Burton. Printed on Abbey Wove paper. Housed in the original black card slipcase. A fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents spotlessly clean throughout. The slipcase is also in fine condition.

The first edition was published without illustrations by Secker and Warburg in 1949. This newly illustrated edition follows the text of the first edition, with minor emendations.
