A LITTLE LEARNING: The First Volume of an Autobiography.

First edition, first printing. Original pale blue cloth with silver lettering to the spine, in dustwrapper. Double portrait frontispiece, eleven plates. A very fine copy, the contents clean without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the equally fine dustwrapper, without any blemishes to note. Not price-clipped (30s net to the front flap). A beautiful copy.

'A Little Learning' is Waugh's own account of his childhood and his education at Lancing and then Oxford (the Oxford of 'Brideshead Revisited') and closing with his stint as a teacher at a preparatory school in North Wales, a period which would inspire 'Decline and Fall', his first novel. The subtitle confidently states that this is 'The First Volume of an Autobiography'. The author had signed a contract for the second volume which, however, never appeared.
