ENGLISH POLITICAL CARICATURE: A Study of Opinion and Propaganda. Vol 1: To 1792. Vol 2: 1793-1832.

First edition, first printing. Two volumes. Publisher's original navy blue cloth with titles in gilt to the spines, in dustwrappers. Illustrated with 192 black and white plates. A near fine set, apparently unread. The bindings square and tight with minor rubbing to the boards and a little bumping to the extremities of volume one. The contents are clean and crisp throughout and remain free from any previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the very good or better dustwrappers which have some marking and scuffs and a little creasing to the extremities. Not price-clipped (70s. net to the front flaps).

An extensive and well-illustrated study of political caricature in England by one of the leading historians of the subject. Prior to the present work, George had compiled the final seven volumes of the authoritative 'Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires Preserved in the Department of Prints and Drawings in the British Museum', the primary reference work for the study of British satirical prints of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
