First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by the author, and with corrections to the text on five pages, seemingly in the author's hand, including the insertion of a new sentence on p.52. Publisher's original turquoise cloth with titles in gilt to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing to the extremities and bumping to the corners. The contents with a little spotting to the textblock edge are otherwise in good order and clean throughout. Complete with the original dustwrapper which has marking from a previous tape repair to the verso of the upper panel, a 2cm tear to the bottom edge of each panel and minor wear to the extremities.
Inscribed by author to the writer, publisher and campaigner Jon Wynne-Tyson (1924-2020) in blue ink on the title page: "For Jon Wynne-Tyson / with best wishes and / after many years of / shared interests / Victor Goddard / May '76." Air Marshal Sir Robert Victor Goddard (1897-1987) was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, but is perhaps best known for his interest in paranormal phenomena, beginning with his own experience of a clairvoyant episode in 1935. In the present work he argues for the existence and importance of extrasensory perception: "Among the subjects discussed in relation to consciousness are slips through time, dowsing, reincarnation, mediumship, fairies and U.F.O.s - as seen through the eyes of an airman."
