First edition, first printing. Signed by the author and illustratior. Original heavy beige cloth with a title label to the spine, in a patterned Japanese paper dustwrapper printed with an illustration by Judy J. King. With two monochrome plates by King. A near fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions, the closed text-block edge lightly spotted. Complete with the near fine dustwrapper which is slightly faded to the spine. Housed in the original slipcase by Judi Conant which has a little fading along the top and open edges.

Issued in a limited edition 'Collector's edition' of 126 copies, from which this example is numbered 125 and signed in black ink by Gregory Benford and Judy J. King on an illustration plate facing the limitation page. A novella by the hard science fiction writer and astrophysicist Gregory Benford, later collected in a book of the of the same name along with other shorter works by Benford, published by Bantam Spectra in 1995.
