Uncorrected Proof copy of the first edition, first printing. Publisher's plain brown paper covers, white label printed in black to the upper cover. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the upper cover with the publisher's inked manuscript date and publication info. The contents are entirely complete and without loose or torn pages. The poor quality proof paper stock is toned and there is a little damp staining to the bottom edge of the text block which extends into the margin corner of the prelims, otherwise the pages are clean throughout.
Considered a classic of Christian apologetics, and the most popular of the author's non-fiction works. This volume contains revised and expanded essays adapted from a series of BBC radio talks made between 1941 and 1944, which originally appeared in print as three separate pamphlets. Examples in proof form of any of C. S. Lewis' major works are rare in commerce.
