First edition with autobiographical sketch and illustrations. Publisher's original green cloth with titles in gilt to the spine. Illustrated with 8 mounted albumen prints. The clipped signature of the Irish poet John McDonald (1846-1911) to the front pastedown. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a splash mark to the upper board and a little rubbing to the extremities. The contents with a contemporary previous owner's embossed address stamp to the front free endpaper, a little minor wear to the paper covering the front inner-hinge, a little rippling to the edges of some of the pages upon which the photographs are mounted, and the odd minor mark to page margins, are otherwise in good order and clean throughout.
A scarce early work of poetry illustrated by photography by the Scottish angler and poet Thomas Stoddart (1810-1880). Only three copies listed on Copac (BL, Glasgow, Nat. Lib. Scotland).
