Uncorrected proof copy of the first UK edition, first printing. Michael Moorcock's copy. Publisher's original white card covers printed in purple and black, in the don Macpherson illustrated dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a minor rubbing to the extremities. The contents, with the bookplate of Michael Moorcock to the inner front cover, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the rubbed and creased dustwrapper that is without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£9.95 net to the lower front flap). An excellent association copy.

Loosely laid in is the publisher's review slip with the publication details of both the hardcover and simultaneous paperback editions; and a letter from the Publicity Manager at Chatto addressed to the multi-award winning science fiction and fantasy author Michael Moorcock and dated 30 October 1984 "Dear Michael Moorcock / Chatto is launching a new Science Fiction list in February and the first two books published ill be Peace by Gene Wolfe and The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers. / I thought that you might enjoy reading them and enclose proof copies of both". A copy of Moorcock's reply is also inserted giving thanks for the books and apologising for the delay in reply "but you used an address some twelve years out of date!". The Anubis Gates, first published as a paperback original in the US, won the 1983 Philip K. Dick Award for best novel. The British edition was the first printing in hardcover.
