First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a small bump to the bottom corner of the upper board, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with minor spotting to the endpapers and more so to the closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked, price-clipped dustwrapper that remains bright and otherwise without loss or tears. Very scarce.

The twelfth book to feature agent Doctor Stanislaus Alexander Palfrey. As far as we have been able to establish, this title was never reprinted. (Hubin).
