Two of Ellison's early short story collections, unusual in not including speculative fiction. The stories in 'The Deadly Streets' (first published in 1958) explore the violence Harlan encountered as a member of a 1950s Brooklyn street gang during research for his novel 'Web of the City', and 'Gentleman Junkie' (first published in 1961) examines the injustice and oppression prevalent in the United States in the 1950s.
