First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with white titles to the spine, in the Trevor Denning illustrated dustwrapper. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with some light marks to the cloth on the upper board. The contents, with mild foxing to the endpapers and sporadically to the first and last pages and top edge of the closed text block, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased, price-clipped dustwrapper, the spine a little toned, with mild foxing to the verso which is lightly visible on the recto and is otherwise without loss or tears.

The first of several post-apocalyptic science fiction novels under the John Christopher pseudonym. Later published in America in book form and serialised in The Saturday Evening Post, under the title 'No Blade of Grass'. The title was retained for the 1970 Cornel Wilde film adaptation starring Nigel Davenport, Jean Wallace, and John Hamill.
