First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the illustrated dustwrapper. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, the spine tips and outer corners a little bumped. The contents, with coloured map endpapers, are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. The top- and fore-edges of the text block very lightly spotted. Complete with the rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which remains without loss or large tears. Loosely laid in is the publisher's bookmark which features a photographic portrait and short biography of the author, as well as a list of works up to 'The Rising Storm' (1949). Not price-clipped and correctly priced (12/6d. net) to the spine. An attractive example of the seventh Duke de Richleau novel, particularly nice with the immaculate bookmark.
Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the title page "For Dorothy Douglas-Hamilton / With kindest remembrances / from her old friend / Dennis Wheatley".
