THE SOUL'S PROGRESS

First edition, first printing. Inscribed presentation copy to Elisabeth Malbury. Publisher's original green ribbed cloth with gilt titles to the spine and upper board. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth clean and bright. The very lightly spotted contents are clean throughout.

Inscribed by the author in sepia ink on the front free endpaper, reading "To / Miss Elizabeth Malbury / With the best wishes of / Louis V. Ledoux / April 20 1908". Elisabeth Malbury was a pioneering literary and theatrical agent whose clients included Oscar Wilde and George Bernard Shaw. She lived with the prominent socialite Elsie de Wolfe (Lady Mendl), who is often thought of as the first interior designer, for over 20 years and the pair are believed to have been in a lesbian relationship. Provenance: from the library of Martin Stone.
