First edition in book form, first printing. Signed by the author. Limited edition. Original blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Edd Cartier illustrated dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding firm, the spine tips slightly bumped, the cloth lightly rubbed. There is some toning and faint spotting to the closed text-block edge, the contents are otherwise clean and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which is slightly faded to the spine. Not price-clipped ($2.75 on the front flap).

Issued in a limited edition of 350 copies, this example is numbered 307 and is inscribed by the author on the limitation page in blue ink "Cordially yours / Eric F. Russell. [underlined]". A blend of science fiction and detective story, 'Dreadful Sanctuary' was originally serialised in Astounding Science Fiction Magazine in 1948 and is published here in book form for the first time. It was partially rewritten for the US paperback edition published in 1963, which has a different ending.
