First UK edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Original cream cloth with stamped black titles and a crow motif to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout in black and white by Portia Rosenberg. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. There is a touch of faint spotting to the top of the closed text block edge, the contents are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the very lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper which has a little dustiness at the extremities. Not price-clipped (£17.99 on the front flap).

Signed by Susanna Clarke in black ink on the title page. Clarke's first novel, a highly original literary fantasy in the alternative history sub-genre. It has won many awards including the Hugo and World Fantasy Awards for Best Novel, and was adapted into a television mini-series which aired on BBC One in 2015.
