Original blue boards with a cream cloth spine bearing silver titles, initials in silver to the upper board, in the David Myers and Les Katz illustrated dustwrapper. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the bottom corner of the upper board very slightly frayed, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the very lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper that remains without fading, loss or tears. Signed by Philip José Farmer in black ink on the title page. The 'definitive', expanded and revised edition of Farmer's novella which was first published in the magazine 'Starling Stories' in 1952 and won him the Hugo Award for Best New SF Author or Artist. It was first expanded and published in book form in 1961 and then further expanded and revised in this first hardcover edition. 'The Lovers' was received with praise for its bold and nuanced exploration of sex and religion as part of a science fiction narrative.
