One of 100 copies, this copy numbered 16. Inscribed by the author in black ink at the head of the title page "Pour Josette / affectueusement / Sam / Avril 1979". The recipient Josette was the wife of the cubist artist Henri Hayden (1883-1970). The Haydens first encountered Beckett in 1943 in Roussillon, a small village in France where Beckett was in hiding and Henri and Josette had arrived, also in flight from the Nazis. The couple went on to enjoy a long and lasting friendship with Beckett.
