First edition. Inscribed by the author. Publisher's original ochre cloth with gilt titles to the spine. A hand written letter from Bawden to Victoria Glendinning is loosely laid in at the front. In dustwrapper. A lovely near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with just the slightest rubbing to the extremities. The contents, with Glendinning's bookplate to the front pastedown, are otherwise bright and clean throughout. In the very good dustwrapper which has some light creasing and dustiness to the edges. Not price clipped (£13.99 to the lower front flap).
A superb association copy inscribed by the author to the award winning biographer Victoria Glendinning in blue ink on the title page, reading "For Victoria - Best wishes / from Nina". The laid in letter from Bawden to Glendinning fondly mentions a recent evening the two writers spent together alongside friends, and Bawden invites Glendinning to visit her house in the summer and sit in the garden. This novel from the beloved and prolific author of the award winning children's novels Carrie's War and The Peppermint Pig was adapted into a television series for Channel 4.
