Gouache in monochrome on artists board. Measuring 51 x 31 cm. Signed and dated by the artist lower left. An energetic scene depicting the Napier-Railton at full throttle during the night stage of the World 24-Hour Record breaking drive at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Likely John Cobb is behind the wheel, who along with co-drivers Charles Dodson and R. E. Rose-Richards broke twenty speed records during their time at Bonneville in 1935.
Bryan De Grineau (1883-1957) prolific motoring, travel and railway artist, at the time of this painting was working as in house artist for 'The Motor' magazine. As a war artist during both World Wars he was published by the Illustrated London News. This painting is superb example of the artist's work, on his favourite subject, at the height of his career.
