Signed and inscribed by the author in blue ink to the half title page: "To: Sir Fergus Montgomery, MP, / Chairman of the / library subcommittee - / with the author's / compliments. / David Menhennet / 10 June 1991". An exploration of the past and present of the House of Commons Library by its long-time librarian (1976-1991), Dr David Menhennet. The recipient, Sir Fergus Montgomery (1927-2013), was a Conservative MP for more than thirty years and a staunch ally of Margaret Thatcher. He served as Thatcher's Parliamentary Private Secretary, first during her tenure as Secretary of State for Education (1973-74), and then as Leader of the Opposition (1975-76), and was notably one of those who had originally pressed her to stand against Edward Heath for the leadership. A nice association copy. Provenance: From the collection of Sir Fergus Montgomery.
