First edition, first printing. Publisher's original wrappers with a coloured illustration to both covers and to the inner flaps. Illustrated throughout with black and white drawings on tinted backgrounds for each letter of the alphabet. A very good copy, the binding firm with some looseness to the stitching between the wrappers and the textblock, a little chipping to the spine, a small, discreet tape reinforcement to the inside of the wrappers at the head and foot, and minor rubbing to the extremities. The contents with minor toning to page edges are otherwise clean and bright throughout and free from any previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. An attractive example.
A wonderfully playful equestrian alphabet by the celebrated animal painter Charles Walter Simpson (1885-1971). A scarce production by the Curwen Press. Only four copies listed on Copac (BL, Oxford, Manchester, Nat. Lib. Scot.).
