Publisher's original illustrated laminated boards, with matching illustrated dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with black and white frontispiece of Hugh Low and 66 colour plates. A fine copy, the binding tight and square, with light bumping to the bottom of the spine, the contents clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, that is lightly faded to the spine and otherwise free from loss or tears.

An account of Hugh Low's time in Sarawak, following a government posting to Labuan in 1848. During this time he discovered numerous new orchids and plants, which he documented, illustrated and collected specimens to be sent back to Kew. Includes 59 paintings from Hugh Low's collection, 33 of which by him.
